Using the Acne Diet to Clear Up Breakouts

An acne diet is certainly an appealing idea. Hasn’t everybody heard that chocolate will give you pimples? I believe we all have. If you think about it its not so far-fetched that by watching your diet you could prevent acne.

Although creating a good acne diet can be very hard. This is very personal and its based on your body’s unique response to certain foods. There are rules to follow, but progress is usually by trial and error. Check your skin thoroughly every day. Write a journal. You might even want to take pictures using a digital camera once or twice a week. If and when your skin clears, stick to the diet that you were using at that time.

Here are some guidelines to get you started on an acne diet:

* Eat more protein - Many dermatologists think that protein intake is related to clear skin. The reason for this belief is because protein has an enzyme that will limit the production of oils. If you have oily skin, you know that it is very vulnerable to breakouts.

* Carbohydrates are not good - Don’t cut yourself off completely. However you should keep them around 40 percent of your diet. Carbohydrates contain compounds that stimulate oil production. This is why common knowledge says that junk food leads to acne. Actually, though, junk food is just high in carbs.

* 3. Drink green tea - Drinking the real stuff is the best. The best type of green tea is the kind you brew at home. You may not like the real stuff so the green tea drinks will work. Green tea limits androgen production. Breakouts have been known to be caused by a hormone called androgen.

* 4. Limit your salt intake - Salt usually contains iodine. Which is why table salt is sometimes called “iodized salt.” For some people with acne, iodine can be a major inflammatory agent.

It is very important to watch what you eat and put on your face. You should know what ingredients are in your beauty products if you have acne. Use oil free moisturizers and organic skin care products. These products will least likely cause you to breakout. Mineral makeups are a good investment, if you wear makeup. Many dermatologists today believe that mineral makeup can really reduce breakouts and increase the results of your acne diet.
