Basic 8 Pack Abs Exercises You Can Do at Home
Posted on Nov 13, 2009 under Fitness, Weight Training | No CommentWhen someone first mentioned the phrase “8 pack abs” to me, I honestly thought they were crazy. I mean, a six pack is already quite challenging to achieve AND keep; 8 pack abs are simply IMPOSSIBLE.
But I don’t think so anymore…
I found out later on that 8 pack abs are indeed within anyone’s reach. A little determination, a healthy diet, and plenty of exercise can get you that 8 pack.
Today, I’m going to focus on that last point – EXERCISE. It’s something many people dread because they consider it as work. I must admit, I, too, experienced a distaste for exercise back in the day. But keeping your eye on the prize only makes the journey so worthwhile.
There’s no better time to start than here and now. These 4 abdominal muscles exercises are the simplest drills you can do to get 8 pack abs:
1. Weighted Sit Ups
2. Bicycles
3. Full Body Crunches
4. Curls
Weighted Sit Ups
Anything that simulates a small amount of weight, like a hardbound book or a can of dog food, will be useful in this exercise. When my kitchen’s running low on supplies, I simply take an empty bottle, fill it with water, and seal it tight.
Now, lie down on the floor, bend your knees slightly, and plant your feet firmly on the ground. Hold down the weight on your chest with both hands so it doesn’t fall off. Gradually lift your torso while keeping the lower half for you body completely still. Always contract those abdominal muscles. When you’re about 45 degrees off the ground, stay there for as long as you can, then assume your original position. Doing this simple exercise frequently will help you get those 8 pack abs.
Bicycle
This one’s my favorite out of the bunch. Simply lie down on the floor, bring your knees up alternately, as if you were biking in air. While you’re doing that, place your hands behind your ears and twist your upper body toward the direction of your bent knee.
Full Body Crunches
This one’s a real challenge, but I feel that it’s done so much for my abs. I suggest you start doing it, too!
While still lying on the floor, place your hands over your chest, and bend your knees once again. Now, come up as you would when you perform a regular crunch. Lift your legs toward the ceiling as you do your upper body crunch. Your target is to form a sort of horse shoe shape with your body every time you go in for that crunch. Hold that position while you keep your abs flexed, and then go back to your original position.
Curls
You can say that this one’s almost like a regular crunch, but you will need to focus on “curling” your back and tightening your abdominal muscles more. Put both hands on your abdomen and feel it get tighter. Curl your back slowly as you lean those shoulders in, then uncurl at an equal pace back to the floor.
So, here’s the truth about six pack abs: 8 pack abs CAN be an actuality. Just perform these basic abs exercises often and NEVER SAY DIE
