Every day it seems there is a new product launched promising us an easy way to do exercises to lose body fat.But is it possible for you to pick a specific area of your body and perform certain exercises to burn the fat from there?

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but targeting the fat from a specific part of the body (also known as spot reduction) is not possible.I’ll use a simple illustration to explain the situation a little better.

If you think of your body like a 50m pool – one end is deep while the other is much shallower.As water is drained from the pool, the last amount of water remaining is always going to be the deep end, regardless of which part of the pool the water is being sucked from.

Well your body is like the pool, and your body fat is like the water. You have absolutely zero control over where on your body you have more or less body fat – that has all been predetermined by your genes. You might have trouble with the fat on your upper legs, while your friends will be continually complaining about the stubborn belly fat that just won’t seem to go.

Strength training is the second type of exercise. Obviously if you want washboard ads the first step is to actually be able to see the abs, which is what you are doing the cardio for.

But you also want to be exercising the muscles of the mid section so that when it comes time for them to appear from beneath your belly fat they make for an impressive sight.

Exercising your mid section doesn’t mean doing thousands of sit-ups every day – there are countless variations of core strength exercises that are both effective and place less stress on your back or neck.

So figuring out what exercises to do to lose belly fat is a two step process. Start working on the cardio and stripping fat from all parts of your body.At the same time start strengthening up the mid section through a variety of core exercises.
